Explosive ordinance clearance

Explosive ordinance clearance

CE.SUB. S.r.l. is registered in the Register of Companies Specialised in Systematic Explosive Ordnance Clearance, both in maritime and underwater environments, following the specific certifications issued by the Italian Ministry of Defence.

Since 26 June 2016, whenever excavation activities of any depth or type are planned on a construction site, the Health and Safety Coordinator during the Design Phase is required to assess, within the Safety and Coordination Plan, the risk arising from the possible presence of unexploded ordnance (UXO) that may be encountered during excavation activities.

Land and maritime explosive ordnance clearance is carried out as a precautionary and self-protection measure by the Interested Parties, namely owners, usufruct holders or holders of other rights in rem, as well as agricultural tenants carrying out farming activities on the land, who intend to clear the area of any explosive remnants of war (ERW).

FAILURE TO ASSESS THE RISK OF UNEXPLODED ORDNANCE (UXO) constitutes a PROJECT ERROR and entails the corresponding liability.

This involves the search, detection and exposure of explosive remnants of war (ERW) carried out as a preventive measure in areas of the Italian national territory located within territorial waters and inland waters.

For the purposes of these activities, inland waters include lakes, rivers and other bodies of water where the depth requires the use of diving equipment and/or specialised underwater search equipment.

The activities are performed in areas presumed to have been affected by wartime events, where the presence of submerged explosive ordnance or ordnance that cannot be identified by visual inspection is suspected. The purpose is to clear the seabed, riverbed or lakebed and the underlying substrate of any such explosive remnants.

  1. This involves the search, detection and exposure of explosive remnants of war (ERW) carried out as a preventive measure in areas of the Italian national territory that are presumed to have been affected by wartime events, where the presence of buried explosive ordnance or ordnance that cannot be identified by visual inspection is suspected. The purpose is to clear the soil and underlying subsoil of any such explosive remnants.

The Company has a range of specialised detection systems with technical specifications designed to effectively detect, through clear audible and/or instrument-based signals, the presence of metallic objects in marine, lake and river environments and their underlying substrates, including mines, explosive devices, bombs, projectiles and explosive remnants of war of any kind or type, whether intact or fragmented, at the required depths.

One of these systems is the Geometrics G-882 Magnetometer, a highly sensitive instrument capable of detecting and mapping ferrous objects, including small and buried items, by identifying the magnetic anomalies they generate.

Magnetometers with a sensitivity of ≤ 0.01 nT are authorised for detection at distances of up to 3.00 m from the sensor.

    1. Fluxgate Magnetometer (FOERSTER FEREX API 4.032), capable of detecting, at least 1.00 m from the sensor, local variations in the Earth’s magnetic field caused by the presence of ferromagnetic objects, while also allowing their depth to be estimated.
    2. Electromagnetic Detector (EBINGER UWEX 722C), featuring high sensitivity and capable of detecting the presence of small metallic objects, including n
